High-performance Supercars are incredible vehicles that deserve to be driven, but the majority of vehicles rarely see the outside of a heated garage during the winter months. With those lazy summer road trips a distant memory and the colder months quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about winter maintenance to ensure your prized vehicle makes it through those harsh seasonal temperatures. The car experts at The Carsafe Luxury Car Services Monaco have recommended the following 7 tips to assist you in preparing your vehicle for the winter season.

1. Consider having your car serviced and stored during the harshest weather. While cars run better in cooler temperatures, when the weather gets below freezing it may be better to secure storage space for your vehicle during the winter months rather than subject your car to below-freezing temperatures, snow, and salt. The Carsafe recommends you consider having your vehicle professionally maintained during this period to prevent battery and tyre damage during prolonged storage.
2. Have your car serviced for the colder weather. It’s well-known that extreme cold can seriously affect your car’s performance in the winter months. Scheduling your vehicle for a service at the beginning of the season can help you avoid any of the problems associated with starting or running your engine in frigid temperatures. Experienced service personnel will know exactly what types of fluids your car needs and will tune your car for a cold weather start. Always warm the car up carefully.
3. Top up engine coolant with antifreeze. With the weather dipping below freezing in the winter months, it’s important to make sure the fluid levels in your car are topped up and contain the correct dilution of anti-freeze. Anti-freeze provides protection to your engine over the winter months from extreme temperatures. If the fluid in your engine were to freeze, this could cause serious damage and cracking to the engine. 
4. Have the battery checked. Your battery may not be able to produce its normal amount of energy in the cold as the chemical reactions that generate electricity are slower at lower temperatures. This decreased output combined with the increased consumption due to the heater, lights, and blower will put it under even more strain. Batteries have a life expectancy of five years, so if you feel it might be time for a change include this on your winter checklist.
5. Check the windscreen wash Extreme weather can overpower the freezing point of the washer fluid, turning it to slush on your windshield. So, the most important thing is to keep the windshield as warm as possible by turning the defroster on to the warmest temperature setting and highest fan speed. Fresh wiper blades might also help, or at least ensure that the blades are clean and in top condition. Treating the windshield with a water-shedding coating may also help icing by keeping the screen dryer. Make sure you have a good snow brush/scraper on hand.
6. Carefully consider tyres. Most ultra-luxury cars come with high-performance tyres. But during the winter’s super low temps, these experience lower performance and can feel like lead. These should, of course, be replaced with winter tyres which can be tricky with the addition of rim size considerations, so this is best left to an expert in ties for your particular make. Also, make sure you have high-speed chains for the mountain passes and keep your tank at least 1/4 full for better traction. 
7. Know what to do if you get stranded. It can be quite a scary experience when your car breaks down on a dark mountain road and you find yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere. Ensure you have a winter breakdown kit, if it is dark ensure your hazard warning lights are on, and stay away from any moving traffic. Its also imperative that you have a phone with the number of a breakdown service handy.
